This category of tie pins became popular around the 1830s, initially worn by wealthy gentlemen before becoming widely popular in the 19th century. They were primarily used to secure the folds of silk and lace ties.
As they were worn by a specific clientele, the materials and designs were often more unique.
Classic micro-mosaic inlaid floral pin, commonly found originating from Italy. Some may have maker's marks, while others do not!
The glass is densely inlaid, with outstanding detail! Exquisite and complete! The total length is 5.5 cm, with a circular diameter of 1 cm.
Note: In 2022, my trip to Italy included visits to several glass workshops, some of which still produce mosaic items. The workshop owner mentioned that the glass used in mosaics has a different composition than regular glass, but it is primarily glass. Learning this felt like a small step up in knowledge : P : P : P : P
