This is an SDGs jewelry piece featuring kintsugi, upcycled from ceramics by Matsugunzan Pottery (Shouunzan Gama) in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Broken or chipped ceramics that are no longer usable are upcycled and meticulously repaired with kintsugi to be transformed into accessories. The concept behind these pieces is to bring the beauty of nature and long-standing Japanese traditions closer to you, reimagining them into modern accessories that connect to the future, thereby creating new possibilities. A sophisticated, muted grey pottery fragment is paired with malachite. The sides of the pottery fragment are adorned with kintsugi, allowing the gold accents to gleam beautifully from all angles, adding an elegant touch. This work is created using a modern, simplified kintsugi technique. Unlike traditional kintsugi which uses genuine lacquer derived from the sap of the lacquer tree, this piece uses adhesive for the initial bond.
