During production, transparent protective lacquer is applied repeatedly, followed by multiple sessions of meticulous sanding and polishing. This fills the natural pores and microscopic indentations of the wood surface. After dozens of cycles of coating and sanding, a flat, delicate, and substantial high-gloss surface is created. This complex process not only makes the natural grain clearer and more vibrant but also fully showcases the depth and dimensionality of the wood. The finished pen body exhibits a warm, rich glow reminiscent of luxury automotive wood trim, highlighting the natural beauty of the wood as light plays across its surface. Beyond visual enhancement, the high-gloss surface provides excellent protection for the wooden body, reducing the impact of hand oils, stains, and ink on the wood and making daily cleaning and maintenance easier. This model is available with a choice of two nibs: the Standard Calligraphy Titanium Tip or the Special calligraphy titanium tip. The Standard Calligraphy Titanium Tip utilizes a German Bock #250 (#6) titanium nib, expertly handcrafted and adjusted by Old Goat artisans to create a calligraphy nib capable of producing the varied strokes characteristic of brush calligraphy. It offers a unique tactile experience with more flexibility than standard steel nibs. The Special calligraphy titanium tip (EF nib ground and adjusted) is a custom-made nib requested by Old Goat from the German manufacturer. Featuring the #250 (#6) size, it is meticulously handcrafted and adjusted by our artisans to create a calligraphy nib that produces the distinct nuance of brush calligraphy. It offers even greater flexibility than the standard version, allowing for a richer range of strokes. The nib is engraved with the 3952 Yushan logo, making it a collectible piece. Hand-ground calligraphy nib instructions: 1. For calligraphy nibs, we recommend dipping in ink first (do not remove the converter installed inside the pen barrel to prevent backflow) to allow the nib to break in and adapt to your writing style before using the converter to fill the pen. 2. The calligraphy nib is an EF nib ground into a curved shape. Line variation is achieved not by pressing the nib, but through the angle of the pen. Use the curvature at the tip to create thick and thin lines. A more upright angle minimizes contact area for thinner lines. A shallower angle or slight pressure increases contact area for thicker lines. Mastery of line width comes with practice. (Every nib has a limit to the pressure it can withstand; avoid excessive force to prevent damage or misalignment. Using a writing pad under your paper is recommended.) The special titanium tip is a custom creation requested from the German manufacturer, marked with the 3952 Yushan logo. Its flexibility exceeds that of standard titanium nibs, making it more challenging to control. Due to its softness, improper technique or excessive pressure may cause ink flow issues or temporary separation of the nib from the feed. If the nib angle is tilted, additional pressure can distort the ink channel, resulting in poor flow. Therefore, this nib is softer and less forgiving; we recommend mastering steel or standard calligraphy nibs first before advancing to this special tip.
