Point — about the technique Shabon glass is created by coating a transparent glass body with a metallic film that is then fused on, producing a gentle sheen and a distinctive reflective quality different from ordinary glass. This piece uses cased (overlay) glass techniques: layers of different-colored glass are formed, and engraving removes only the colored layer to produce detailed patterns and subtle gradients. Those carved layers create slight reliefs that give the glass its unique tactile feel. Because the decoration is produced by engraving rather than surface printing, there is no fading from washing or aging.
