🌞 Beginner's Workshop: Course Details
--------------------
This introductory course is designed for those who prefer a more relaxed approach to leather crafting, without a significant time commitment. It's perfect for beginners with no prior experience or for anyone looking to create a thoughtful handmade gift. To simplify the process, approximately 70% of the piece is pre-prepared by the studio, making the hands-on experience much more accessible. You'll learn two fundamental hand-stitching techniques: 'pricking iron stitching' for marking stitch holes and 'leather saddle stitching' with two needles. The studio handles all other intricate construction details.
For example, with the badge holder, we pre-apply the clear window, smooth the leather edges, and complete the initial stitching that secures the window. All leather pieces are assembled and adhered, leaving you to complete the final row of stitches. While it appears simple, our extensive teaching experience shows that beginners typically need 1.5 to 2.5 hours to complete the piece.
If you're interested in creating more or learning advanced techniques, we invite you to explore our intermediate courses.

During your hands-on experience, you can personalize your creation by stamping uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols with our available steel stamps, adding your name or initials for a truly unique touch.

🌞 Material Spotlight
--------------------
This item is crafted from vegetable-tanned cowhide, known for its firm texture and durability. In Taiwan's early days, before the widespread use of plastics, vegetable-tanned leather was used in numerous applications, including drive belts for sewing machines, bicycle seats, agricultural tools, and military accessories.

A characteristic of vegetable-tanned leather is its natural color transformation. The tannins within the leather react with air and sunlight, gradually deepening its hue. Combined with the natural oils from your hands and the friction of daily use, the leather develops a rich patina and a distinct luster over time. This evolution, unique to each user and item, is what captivates many handmade leather enthusiasts.

Cattle are primarily raised for meat and dairy, with leather being a byproduct of the livestock industry. Consequently, farmers do not prioritize preserving the hide. This means hides may bear marks from insect bites, scratches, thorns, branding scars from free-roaming cattle, natural growth lines, wrinkles, and even surgical scars from difficult births. During the process of preparing the animal for consumption, knife marks from skinning may also be present. These authentic marks are preserved in the finished leather, serving as a testament to the animal's life. Therefore, any such marks on our leather products are genuine and indicate the absence of artificial surface treatments.

Many Taiwanese leather brands opt to avoid the natural grain of vegetable-tanned leather, often choosing to sand and coat the surface for a uniform appearance. While this results in a flawless exterior, it sacrifices the leather's inherent character. At DOZI Leather Craft, we embrace these natural markings, unless they are exceptionally large. As the leather ages, deepens in color, and develops a sheen from use, these original marks, combined with the patina of time, contribute to the piece's unique narrative.

🌞 Care and Maintenance
--------------------
Regular use is the best form of maintenance. Avoid exposing the leather to humid environments. If the leather becomes wet, immediately wipe it dry with a clean cloth and allow it to air dry in a cool, well-ventilated area. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, as this can cause the leather to harden and deteriorate. Once dry, apply a leather conditioner to replenish oils and consider using a waterproofing spray for protection against accidental spills. For long-term storage or periods of non-use, place the item in a dehumidifying cabinet set to 50%-60% humidity to prevent mold, or use a sealed bag with a desiccant. Periodically apply leather conditioner during storage to prevent the leather from drying out and cracking.

Workshop Description
Notes
1. A reservation time indicates your preferred class slot; an actual session will be confirmed through direct communication, subject to instructor availability and material preparation. If we cannot accommodate your requested time due to our scheduling, a full refund will be issued. In cases of unavoidable circumstances such as weather, government mandates, pandemics, or natural disasters, your payment will be held, and a new session time will be arranged.
2. This booking is for individual sessions at our studio. For corporate events, school group activities, or brand promotions requiring our instructors to come to your location, please contact us separately for arrangements. Do not book through this platform.
3. On-site workshops include DIY stamping with uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Additional services like laser engraving and hot foil stamping must be completed before leather pieces are assembled and are therefore not available during workshop sessions.
4. A one-year warranty from the date of purchase covers repairs and maintenance at our store. For issues other than human-induced damage, there will be no charge for repairs. After one year, complimentary leather maintenance will still be provided, with a nominal fee for repair services.
5. Our studio prefers natural leather materials. Cowhide may exhibit variations in color, texture, and minor marks due to its natural origin, without extensive processing or heavy surface coatings. If you require a completely flawless surface, this may be difficult to achieve. We regret that we cannot accommodate requests for "flawless leather surfaces." Should you have other preferences or requirements regarding workshop materials on-site, a separate appointment can be arranged, but we cannot offer compensation for travel expenses.
