**Hong Yu No. 18: The Trendsetter**
__Forty years after its emergence, No. 18 was officially recognized as "Hong Yu," sparking the Sun Moon Lake black tea trend.__
Hong Yu No. 18 is a hybrid, with Taiwanese mountain tea as its father and a varietal from Myanmar as its mother. Although it was born in the 1950s, it took a long time to gain recognition. It wasn't until 1999, with the official release of Hong Yu black tea, boasting notes of mint and cinnamon, that it became an instant hit.
This is a classic tea from the Sun Moon Lake region. It offers a bright, gentle mint aroma, with a citrusy essential oil note in the mid to late palate.
Therefore, for this selection of Hong Yu No. 18, we focused on a smooth and mellow taste. We found an organic transitioning tea garden in Lugu, Yuchi, and a five-star tea factory, creating a Hong Yu black tea with a balanced aroma and flavor, comfortable to drink, and with a lingering depth. It's recommended for newcomers to No. 18, or for those who prefer a less intense mint aroma.

**Yong Xiang Tea Factory**
__The tea-making journey of three young friends__
Many farmers in the Sun Moon Lake area have inherited old tea gardens from their families. Amidst the more recent black tea revival, they established their own tea factories to ensure consistent quality. Drawing upon childhood memories and experiences, they gradually defined their own unique flavors and styles during the tea factory establishment process.
Yong Xiang Tea Factory was co-founded by three individuals born in the 1980s. Their shared passion for Sun Moon Lake black tea led them to establish their own venture after learning and growing. The trio, who started from scratch, built the tea factory together, considering common needs and cost-effectiveness.
Beyond contract processing, they invest considerable time and effort into tea competitions, refining processing techniques, and developing new flavors. In recent years, they have won numerous local black tea competition awards. In 2024, they swept championships in three categories: large-leaf varietals, Taiwan Tea No. 18, and Taiwan Tea No. 21.

**Cha Shuo Travel's Tea Selection**
__Selected black teas from Lugu, Yuchi__
With the initial aspiration to "make Lugu black tea visible," Cha Shuo Travel has collaborated with local small farmers. Through diverse formats such as tea ceremonies, hands-on activities, workshops, videos, and podcasts, they introduce the local black tea flavors and the century of development, sharing the stories each farmer wishes to tell through tea.
Starting in 2024, they launched "Four Major Black Teas for Beginners," selecting Lugu series black teas most suitable for novice drinkers that year. From the oldest century-old mountain tea, the familiar Assam, the distinctive Hong Yu, to the Westerner's favorite Hong Yun, all are accompanied by clear brewing instructions, allowing beginners to easily enjoy fine tea at home. They have also further integrated Nantou's local friendly agriculture to develop the "Herbal Black Tea" series.
This year, in collaboration with Shan Li Mian, they are launching a physical store's tea and meal experience, blending the century-old craftsmanship and memories of the Sun Moon Lake black tea Lugu region with Taiwanese noodles, creating a rich and balanced new taste for each other.
