Pterodactylus, also known as the winged finger lizard, was the first named pterosaur species. It lived in the Late Jurassic period and primarily fed on fish and small creatures. Their wing membranes were composed of skin and muscle, with the support structure provided by gelatinous fibers and reinforced externally by keratinous ridges. Pterodactylus fossils are widely distributed across Europe and Africa.
