Yet, looking back, both the vanished and the enduring structures not only showcase diverse architectural styles but also serve as testaments to the shifts in Hong Kong's social and economic fabric across different eras, as well as the multicultural tapestry woven from various ethnic groups, religions, and cultures. Drawing from historical records and imagery, Dr. Patrick Wong has redrawn a spectrum of Hong Kong's historical buildings from 1841 to 1997. This effort serves to document the aesthetic qualities of these architectural heritages, while also providing concrete details that illuminate the trajectory of Hong Kong's societal development over more than a century. 1.
