Water-ground Sand, Imperial Sand, Purple Gold Sand, and Crystal Sand are all high-purity cinnabar. Their **primary distinctions lie in color, texture, hardness, and manufacturing methods**.
**"Water-ground Sand"**
**A true red, with a slight orange undertone. Its surface has a warm, matte finish that will gradually develop a lustrous patina with wear.**
This is made by repeatedly grinding fine cinnabar particles into a paste, mixing with water, and then carefully collecting the "turbid liquid" from the top after settling. This refined slurry is then allowed to settle again (the water-grinding purification method). The bottom cinnabar mud is air-dried and then pressed using ancient techniques. Upon cross-section, one can still observe fine, evenly distributed mineral sparkle particles.
**"Imperial Sand"**
**Possesses a more vibrant, true red hue and higher hardness.**
Its production involves multiple stages of purification from natural cinnabar ore, including **crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, water-grinding, and high polishing**. It is then pressed using ancient methods. Imperial Sand has almost no visible sparkle on the surface, but internal mineral flashes are present. The exterior is finished with a **high-polishing** technique, offering a metallic sheen that is particularly striking in sunlight.
**"Purple Gold Sand"**
**Has a purplish-red color and is slightly less hard than Imperial Sand.**
This is produced through multiple processes from natural cinnabar ore, including **crushing, grinding, and screening**, but **without water-grinding purification**. Consequently, the surface is less refined and features scattered, small mineral sparkles, creating a "starry sky" effect.
**"Crystal Sand"**
**Appears purplish-red and is translucent.**
These are large cinnabar particles chipped directly from the ore. Large crystal grains are clearly visible on the surface, allowing light to pass through, emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Planting and Harvest**
**In this world, all things that unfold gracefully, poetically, and beautifully tend to happen naturally, much like the turning of the seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, clear your mind, treat life with gentleness, and respect the power of time. Allow everything to grow naturally, like a tree, focused and fearless, developing clear rings.**
**Our handcrafted pieces are made with the same philosophy!!**
**> Cinnabar**
The earliest written records refer to cinnabar with a single character, "丹" (dān). This character is a pictograph, depicting miners extracting minerals from a shaft. Thus, "丹" visually represents a "well" with a dot in the middle, signifying something taken from within a mine. This something was cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, often a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also signifies red. Later, "丹砂" became known as "朱砂". "丹" and "朱" describe the color, while "砂" describes the shape, referring to irregularly shaped mineral particles.
Cinnabar's color is exceptionally enduring. Chinese calligraphy and painting are known as "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. It is an indispensable component in "Eight Treasures Seal Ink," whose main ingredient is also cinnabar.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that gather the essence of the sun and moon, absorbing the pure energy of heaven and earth. Therefore, cinnabar possesses a strong Yang energy field. You'll notice that jade feels cool to the touch, while cinnabar feels warm.
Historically, cinnabar has been indispensable in Taoist rituals for drawing talismans, consecrating objects, warding off evil, and repelling negative energy. It has always been revered as a supreme item for enhancing luck, transforming misfortune, dispelling spirits, attracting blessings, and accumulating wealth, carrying auspicious meanings of great fortune, prosperity, and well-being.
The "Shennong Ben Cao Jing" (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior herbal ingredient, often used in medicinal treatments for its properties in calming the spirit, detoxification, and alleviating insomnia and excessive dreaming.
Living in modern times, owning a piece of cinnabar artistry can also serve to cultivate one's character, soothe the eyes, and calm the heart.
**> Authentication**
**All cinnabar products in our store are high-purity cinnabar with a substantial weight. You can authenticate them using the following methods:**
>. Burning cinnabar will cause it to turn black. (Please heat through an intermediary object. Direct burning on finished products is generally not recommended as control over time and area is difficult. Overheating will cause blackening which cannot be reversed.)
>. Genuine cinnabar will draw an orange-red line on paper. (To avoid damaging the aesthetic of the finished product, please choose an inconspicuous area for drawing the line, or use the complimentary bead provided.)
**> Care**
1. Avoid Corrosives
Cinnabar is a mineral and is insoluble in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals like soap and shower gel can corrode cinnabar.
2. Avoid Contact with Metal Objects
The mineral elements within cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible darkening and blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercury sulfide component of cinnabar only releases at 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as cinnabar jewelry is kept away from high-temperature environments, it can be worn with peace of mind.
4. Avoid Collisions with Hard or Sharp Objects
Cinnabar has high hardness but is brittle; take care to prevent drops.
5. How to Clean
If your cinnabar appears dirty, do not soak it in water, as this can alter its original luster! Gently wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and allow it to air dry.
6. Oiling for Maintenance
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the surface to absorb the oil and become more lustrous and clear. If applying oil, sealing it in a brocade box, you may wrap it in a layer of cling film to prevent the oil from staining the brocade lining.
7. Frequent Handling
Regularly handle the cinnabar jewelry worn on your body. This allows a very thin layer of natural oils from your skin to adhere to the surface, giving it an increasingly ancient and elegant appearance over time.
The actual item is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
