【Brass Jewelry Care】
Newly crafted brass jewelry has a brighter luster, but it will deepen over time, gradually developing a warm, antique bronze hue. To slow down or prevent significant color changes, refer to the following methods:
【Brass Facts and Care Methods】
◆Brass is a material that easily oxidizes and darkens. It develops different hues over time or with wear, which is part of its unique charm. Those who appreciate a vintage, nostalgic style may intentionally preserve the aged look of naturally oxidized brass. However, be aware that neglecting it completely can lead to it turning almost black over time (similar to sterling silver).
◆For those who prefer their brass jewelry to remain bright and new, the following care methods can help restore its color or slow down discoloration.
◆Frequent wear and natural friction can keep brass shining like new, but areas that are not easily rubbed (such as crevices or grooves) will still darken or blacken.
◆The most convenient and quickest way to remove oxidation is with toothpaste or dish soap. Add water to create a lather and gently scrub or rub. The jewelry's shine can be restored in a short time. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly.
◆Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar, two tablespoons of baking soda, and one teaspoon of salt into a paste. Apply it to the brass you wish to clean and rub back and forth. You will gradually see the brass brighten. Finally, rinse with clean water and dry.
◆Dip a dry cloth in a small amount of brass polish/paste and wipe. This can quickly restore shine, and the protective luster created on the surface after treatment can delay the next oxidation. Remember to wash with dish soap again after polishing for a more thorough clean. The downside is that brass polish has quite an unpleasant smell.
◆If not wearing for an extended period, store it in a resealable bag or a well-sealed container.
◆Avoid wearing with other metal jewelry, as friction and impact can cause scratches.
◆Do not expose to water, liquids, or chemical agents, as this can cause chemical reactions with the metal, leading to rapid darkening.
