🌞 Introductory Workshop: What to Expect
--------------------
This introductory workshop is designed for those who prefer a more relaxed approach to leather crafting, without a significant time commitment. It's ideal for individuals new to handmade leather goods or those looking to create a heartfelt gift. To simplify the process, the studio has pre-assembled about 70% of the project, making the hands-on experience remarkably straightforward. The only techniques you'll learn are 'punching stitch holes with a diamond chisel' and 'hand-stitching with a double needle' – fundamental skills in leather crafting. The studio handles all other intricate details of the creation process.
Using the ID card holder as an example, we will pre-apply the protective film, polish the leather edges smooth, and stitch the initial lines to secure the film. All leather pieces will be assembled and adhered, leaving you to complete the final round of stitching. While it may seem simple, our extensive teaching experience indicates that beginners typically require 1.5 to 2.5 hours or more to complete the project.
If you're interested in creating more or learning advanced techniques, consider booking one of our advanced workshops.

🌞 Material Spotlight
--------------------
This product is crafted from vegetable-tanned cowhide. Vegetable-tanned leather is known for its firm texture and durability. In Taiwan's earlier days, before the widespread availability of plastics, many items were made from this robust material, including drive belts for early sewing machines, bicycle saddles, agricultural tools, and military accessories.

A distinctive characteristic of vegetable-tanned leather is its color transformation. Exposure to air and sunlight causes the natural tannins within the leather to react, gradually deepening its hue. Additionally, the natural oils from your hands and the friction from daily use contribute to a patina, developing a lustrous, aged appearance over time. This unique evolution, shaped by both time and the user's habits, is what makes vegetable-tanned leather creations so special and beloved by handmade leather enthusiasts. These changes are a testament to the shared journey between the user and their leather item.

Cattle are primarily raised for meat and dairy production, not for leather. Leather is a byproduct of the livestock industry. Consequently, farmers do not typically prioritize protecting the animals' skin. During their lives, cattle may sustain injuries from insect bites, scratches, or thorns. Free-roaming cattle might bear brands, and as they age, their skin naturally develops growth lines and wrinkles. In cases of difficult birth, a cow might have surgical scars. During the process of preparing the animal for consumption, skinning can result in knife marks. These natural markings are faithfully preserved on the finished leather, serving as a testament to the animal's life journey. Therefore, if you notice such marks on your leather product, rest assured it is genuine leather, free from artificial additives or surface coatings.

Many Taiwanese leather brands tend to avoid vegetable-tanned cowhide with natural markings, often opting for processed leather with sanded surfaces and spray coatings for a clean appearance. However, this approach strips away the material's natural character. At DOZI Leather Studio, we embrace these natural imperfections of the cowhide. Unless a mark is excessively large, we do not actively avoid using it in our creations. As the leather ages, deepens in color, and develops a rich patina from use, these inherent marks, combined with signs of wear, contribute to the unique character of each piece.
🌞 Color Selection
--------------------
The photographs of the leather materials were taken under actual lighting conditions. Colors may vary due to differences in shooting light and screen displays. To avoid any discrepancies in perception, you are welcome to request free leather swatches for confirmation.

🌞 Care and Maintenance
--------------------
Regular use is the best form of maintenance. It is advisable to avoid storing leather in humid environments. If the leather accidentally gets wet, promptly wipe it dry with a clean cloth and allow it to air dry in a cool, well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight, as this can cause the leather to harden and deteriorate. Once dry, you may apply leather conditioner to replenish its oils. You can also spray a waterproofing agent to protect against accidental spills and enhance surface protection. For storage or long periods of non-use, place the leather item in an electronic dehumidifier, maintaining humidity between 50% and 60% to prevent mold. Alternatively, a sealed bag with a desiccant pack can achieve similar results. During storage, periodically apply leather conditioner to prevent the leather surface from cracking due to dryness.

Workshop Description
Notes
1. A selected appointment time indicates your *desired class slot*. A dedicated staff member will contact you to confirm the actual class time, which may be adjusted based on instructor availability and material preparation. If we cannot accommodate your preferred time due to our scheduling, a full refund will be issued. In cases of class cancellation due to unavoidable circumstances such as weather, government mandates, pandemics, or natural disasters, the fees will be retained, and a new class time will be arranged through communication.
2. This booking is for individual lessons at our studio. For corporate events, school groups, business functions, or brand activities requiring on-site instruction, please contact us separately. Do not make a booking here.
3. On-site workshops include DIY stamping with letter, number, and symbol stamps for personalization. Additional services such as 'laser engraving' and 'hot foil stamping' must be completed *before* the leather pieces are assembled and are therefore not available during scheduled workshops.
4. A one-year product warranty is provided from the date of purchase, covering repairs and maintenance at our store. Exclusions apply for man-made damage; otherwise, repair fees will not be charged. After one year, complimentary leather maintenance services will continue to be offered, with a nominal labor fee for repairs.
5. Our studio favors natural leather materials. Cowhide naturally exhibits variations in color, texture, and markings, and is not heavily processed or coated. Therefore, achieving a flawless surface is unlikely, and requests for "perfectly clean leather" cannot be accommodated. If you have alternative preferences for workshop materials on-site, we can arrange a different class time, but please note that transportation costs for the rescheduled session are not covered.
