There's a world of difference between gold-filled (GF) and gold-plated (GP). Gold plating tends to fade easily as it's a thin layer chemically applied to the metal surface. This item, however, is crafted using the international standard of 1/20 14K GF craftsmanship. This means 14K gold, making up 1/20th of the total weight, is pressure-bonded onto a base metal like brass under high temperature and pressure. Compared to standard gold plating, which is merely a surface wash, gold-filled layers can be over a thousand times thicker! Brass Care Instructions: Brass has always been a highly favored material for jewelry due to its accessible price point and resistance to fading. However, like silver, brass can oxidize, and exposure to rain, sweat, and air can deepen its color. While some appreciate this natural patina, to prevent it, please observe the following: ♦ Avoid contact with water. ♦ Store in a resealable bag when not being worn. If the luster appears diminished, here are a few simple methods to restore your item's original brilliance. Please note that if the surface is scratched, while the color can be revived, the shine may not be fully restored (the matte, antique bronze look of vintage pieces is also beautiful!). ♦ Use a toothbrush dipped in a bit of foaming toothpaste or tooth powder. Gently brush as if brushing your teeth to restore luster. Be sure to dry thoroughly afterward. ♦ Use a polishing cloth for a quick return to brilliance (not suitable for brushed finishes). ♦ Dilute lemon juice and soak the brass item for about 5 minutes to quickly restore its shine (not suitable for natural beads sensitive to acid, such as pearls).
