Lucas van Leyden (1494 – 1533) was a Dutch sculptor and painter who was born and lived mainly in Leiden. Lucas achieved such a high reputation in his time that Giorgio Vasari (who called him Lucas van Hollandt) even praised him over Dürer. He is generally regarded as one of the greatest figures in the history of graphic art, as his etchings and woodcuts rival his sculptures.
