::** DESIGN SPOTLIGHT **::
Dolphins are among the most intelligent animals, known for their friendly and playful nature, making them consistently popular with humans. They are often seen in large pods accompanying whale-watching boats, sometimes racing alongside and leaping from the water. This collection features several dolphin species commonly found in Taiwanese waters, depicted from top to bottom: Bottlenose Dolphin, Spinner Dolphin, Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin, Common Dolphin, Frasier's Dolphin, Pantropical Spotted Dolphin, and Risso's Dolphin.
**Bottlenose Dolphin**
Widely distributed in temperate and tropical waters, bottlenose dolphins are often found in shallow areas near the coast. They are social animals and sometimes swim with pilot whales or false killer whales.
**Pantropical Spotted Dolphin**
Their most distinctive features are the spots covering their bodies and their white lips. They are a frequently sighted species in Taiwanese waters.
The pink one is the Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin, previously famed for its agility in turning. It's affectionately called "Mazu Fish" by some, as fishermen often spot them during the Mazu festival season in spring. They are seen as a celebratory sight for Mazu, hence the nickname. Sadly, due to habitat destruction and pollution, their numbers have dramatically decreased. We hope that Mr. Bai—or rather, Mr. Wu—who champions the Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin, can effectively advocate for them, ensuring these beautiful pink figures continue to grace our oceans.
**Common Dolphin**
Their most striking feature is the contrasting white and yellow underside against their darker bodies.
**Frasier's Dolphin**
Among dolphins, they are considered relatively shy. Although they often swim in pods of hundreds, they tend to swim away when they see boats approaching.
**Spinner Dolphin**
This is the species I saw on a whale-watching trip! They are incredibly lively and friendly, often performing impressive spinning jumps as if showing off.
**Risso's Dolphin**
Their full, rounded heads have earned them the nickname "monk's head." Their bodies are often marked with greyish-white scratches, remnants of past altercations or fights.
Each postcard features handmade hot-foil stamping, resulting in subtle variations between each piece.
