"Silk Threads, Poetry, and You"
Morning thoughts linger,
Dreaming of you, never apart.
Future days filled with life's simple joys,
Growing old together, silver-haired and content.
Translation:
By day, we manage the necessities of life: firewood, rice, oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and tea.
By night, we immerse ourselves in the arts: zither, chess, calligraphy, painting, poetry, wine, and flowers.
In the days to come, I wish to share all the worldly flavors with you.
For the rest of our lives, I want to grow old by your side.
*Meng Liang Lu* (Menglian Lu): Refers to the seven daily necessities. From Wu Zimu's *Menglian Lu*, Vol. 16: "These are the things a household cannot be without each day: firewood, rice, oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and tea."
"Never apart from him/her": Quoted from an untitled poem by Zha Weiren of the Qing Dynasty, "Zither, chess, calligraphy, painting, poetry, wine, and flowers, in those days, never apart from them; now all seven have changed, firewood, rice, oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and tea." Another theory attributes this to Zhang Can of the Qing Dynasty.
"Worldly flavors" (Yan Huo): The simple, everyday experiences of life.
"Silver-haired" (Hua Fa): White hair, symbolizing old age.
