Kalocsa embroidery (Kalocsai hímzés) is a traditional embroidery style originating from the Kalocsa region in southern Hungary. Vibrant embroidery threads are used to depict floral motifs like roses and violets, as well as local produce such as the bell peppers for which Kalocsa is famous, onto fabric. Traditional Kalocsa embroidery is typically done without an embroidery hoop, as many patterns utilize the satin stitch technique, lending a subtle three-dimensional quality that is characteristic of the style.
