Each creation possesses a unique concept and design, breathing life into the pieces through pure hand-pinching or wheel-throwing processes. Every item is one-of-a-kind. Our works are created together as a couple, which is why you'll find the "Ping" or "Fan" signature, and some pieces will have the "Xiao Ping Fan Pottery Studio" seal. Truly unique! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51567264550_68d52fdae8_b.jpg **1. What is the origin of the works?** We primarily use American clay, Japanese clay, and Taiwanese Miaoli clay for our creations. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51567015014_0b15931da0_c.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51565549942_7663197885_h.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51567015039_4c2a9b80e3_c.jpg **2. What is the wood-firing process?** American clay, Japanese clay, and Miaoli clay are mixed in different proportions. The creation process involves pure hand-pinching (not a potter's wheel) to slowly form the shape. After basic shaping, the body lines are refined, followed by polishing to complete the greenware. Once placed in the kiln, the wood-firing process using natural longan and acacia wood lasts for five days and four nights without interruption. The temperature reaches over 1200 degrees Celsius. During this time, natural ash deposits adhere to the works, forming a special ash glaze. Simultaneously, the kiln's fire patterns flow among the pieces, creating beautiful orange-red or blue-purple flame marks. After five days and four nights of ash and fire pattern interplay, a week of cooling is required before a piece achieves its beautiful form! Because the kiln atmosphere differs with each wood firing, the ash deposits and fire patterns on each piece are never the same, making every piece uniquely singular! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51567015104_1eec785177_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51567264535_7bd0037e60_c.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51565533012_fdce6d65a3_h.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51566346721_2b98f539f8_c.jpg **3. What should discerning customers note?** Product colors may vary slightly due to photographic lighting. As works are entirely handmade, they will inevitably bear traces of the crafting process. Minor variations may also occur during firing, such as slight irregularities in the rim or minor production scratches. These are normal phenomena and do not affect usability. Your understanding is appreciated! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51565533097_13ea71a377_c.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51565533012_219eca4133_c.jpg **4.
