Handpainted Westerwald-style salt-glazed stoneware storage pitcher.
This type of stoneware is also known as Kannenbäckerland Stoneware, and it is a distinctive type of salt glazed grey pottery originally from the Höhr-Grenzhausen and Ransbach-Baumbach area of Westerwaldkreis in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.
The layer of salt glaze ensures that the pottery is water tight without adding any flavour to the liquid contained in the jug. Westerwald stoneware is typically decorated with cobalt blue painted designs.
This pitcher is marked "1L" (1000cc). It is in undamaged, good condition with small production flaws that are inherent in handmade pieces. The photographs are a part of the description.
