The precise control over the thickness of each glaze layer, combined with firing at 1260°C for 20 hours of intense heat, allows the glaze to contract and flow within the kiln, producing the distinctive patterns and fluidity reminiscent of peacock feathers. The challenge in its firing lies in the delicate balance of glaze thickness and temperature control. Too thin or insufficient temperature will prevent the peacock feather pattern from forming, while too thick or excessive temperature can cause the glaze to run onto the accompanying plate, damaging both the teacup and the plate. Even ambient temperature fluctuations can influence the final outcome. Numerous factors are at play, and despite years of dedicated study, achieving perfect predictability remains elusive. It is precisely this inherent complexity that imbues each finished piece with its precious value.
