About Wood Firing 'Wood firing' is a traditional kiln firing method, reaching temperatures above 1200 degrees Celsius using wood. It features 'fire marks' naturally left by the flames on the ceramic body, and the ash naturally falling from the burning wood, resulting in a warm, rich, and varied glaze. This is a realm unattainable by electric or gas kilns. Compared to regular electric and gas kilns, the entire process of wood firing—from loading the kiln, ignition, firing, to cooling—takes approximately 8-10 days. Furthermore, the intense kiln pressure, along with factors like humidity, wood dryness, the speed of stoking the fire, and kiln placement, can all influence the success or failure of a piece, leading to a higher damage rate. Experienced wood-firing artisans consider the kiln's airflow when placing pieces, planning the arrangement based on size, estimating the flame's path, controlling the stoking of wood and charcoal, and managing the firing temperature.
