Wood-fired kiln firing / Tenmoku glaze oval sphere vase - Pottery & Ceramics - Pottery Brown

Product Description

This is a plump, round, and slightly wide flower vase made using coarse white ceramic clay that gives it the feel of earthenware, and deep brown Tenmoku glaze. The pottery studio in Fukuoka that I work with fires pottery in a climbing kiln once a year. A climbing kiln is a type of wood-fired kiln that uses firewood to heat the pot without using electricity, kerosene, or gas. The temperature inside the furnace reaches as high as 1,300°C, and as the molten glaze gets splashed with wood ash and the flames hit the base material, each piece takes on a pattern that cannot be controlled by human hands. The firing process takes more than a week, from starting the fire to taking the clay out of the kiln. The flavor that resides in each and every piece is truly exceptional, and speaks to the power of the flame and the hard work and experience of the people who bring it out. The Tenmoku glaze used is an original glaze made by the potter. There is a unique charm to homemade blends. This vase was born from all that effort. It was fired in December 2024. This was the first time I had this glaze fired in a climbing kiln, and the parts that were covered in ash took on a slight green tinge, creating an interesting color change. The unglazed parts of the clay have a metallic sheen in places, which gives the piece a more refined appearance. This is a view that can only be seen in a wood-fired kiln. Ceramics are naturally water-absorbent, so we apply a waterproofing agent to prevent water from getting into the material. We have confirmed that by using this waterproofing agent, no water will seep out for approximately 40 hours, however, there is a possibility that a small amount of evaporated water may come out from the bottom, making the area feel slightly damp. If this bothers you, you may be able to use the product with peace of mind by placing a cloth mat or similar underneath. Using various glazes and clays, I create a wide variety of pottery in different colors and shapes, searching for the best combinations. It is impossible to create two identical pieces, so although they may look similar, each piece is unique. I would be very happy if you could find your favorite. Please enjoy the unique taste and texture of tableware baked over a wood fire. --- *Size and weight Size: Diameter 8.3cm, Height 7.4cm, Base diameter 3.8cm Weight: 140g Hole size: 1.7cm --- *About the waterproofing agent used* ・Water-stopping agent name: Flipcoat Effects: Improved waterproofing and moisture resistance, reduced penetration of oil and acid, reduced dirt and stains, prevention of cracks caused by freezing, prevention of mold and algae growth, prevention of penetration of cracks ・Characteristics: Water-soluble, colorless and transparent, odorless, non-flammable, weakly alkaline (You can find more detailed information by searching the name of the waterproofing agent on the Internet.) --- *Precautions for purchase and use - We try to photograph and edit product images as accurately as possible to make them appear as real as possible, but they may appear differently depending on your monitor settings and lighting conditions. ・As this product is also sold on other websites, in the unlikely event that there are multiple purchases, we will deliver to the person who made the purchase first.
