Each creation possesses a unique concept and design, imbuing the process of pure hand-building or wheel-throwing with life. Every piece is one-of-a-kind. Our studio's works are created together by my husband and I, hence the signatures "Ping" or "Fan." Some pieces also feature the "Xiao Ping Fan Pottery Studio" seal, making them truly unique!! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51567264550_68d52fdae8_b.jpg **1. What is the origin of the works?** We primarily use American clay, Japanese clay, and Taiwanese Miaoli clay for our creations. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51567015014_0b15931da0_c.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51565549942_7663197885_h.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51567015039_4c2a9b80e3_c.jpg **2. What is the wood-firing process?** American clay, Japanese clay, and Miaoli clay are mixed in different proportions. The creation process involves pure hand-building (not on a potter's wheel), slowly shaping the form. After basic shaping, the body lines are refined, and then polished to complete the greenware. Once placed in the kiln, the wood-firing process using natural longan wood and acacia wood continues for five days and four nights without interruption. The temperature reaches over 1200 degrees Celsius. During this time, natural ash deposits adhere to the works, forming a special ash glaze. Simultaneously, the flame patterns within the kiln flow among the pieces, creating beautiful orange-red or blue-purple flame marks. After five days and four nights of ash and flame interplay, a week of cooling is required before a piece achieves its beautiful form! Because the kiln atmosphere differs with each wood-firing, the ash deposits and flame patterns on every piece are unique, making each work truly one of a kind! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51567015104_1eec785177_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51567264535_7bd0037e60_c.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51565533012_fdce6d65a3_h.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51566346721_2b98f539f8_c.jpg **3. What should guests be aware of?** Product colors may vary slightly due to photographic lighting. As the works are purely handmade, they will inevitably bear the marks of the creation process. Minor variations may also occur due to the firing process, such as slight irregularities in the rim or minor production scratches, which are considered normal and do not affect usability.
