Vegetable-tanned leather is known for its firm and durable texture. In Taiwan's early days, before the widespread availability of plastics, many items utilized vegetable-tanned leather, such as drive belts for sewing machines, bicycle saddles, rural tools, and military accessories. https://www.dozi.com.tw/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/websiteimg-0007.jpg A characteristic of vegetable-tanned leather is that its color deepens over time due to the interaction of the plant tannins with air and sunlight. The surface color of the leather gradually darkens. Combined with the natural oils from the user's hands and the friction from daily use, it develops a lustrous patina. This aging process allows leather goods made from vegetable-tanned leather to evolve uniquely with time and user habits. Leather is a byproduct of the livestock industry. Consequently, farmers do not pay special attention to protecting the cattle's skin. During their lives, cattle may sustain insect bites, scratches, or puncture wounds. Free-ranging cattle may also bear brands. As they grow, their skin develops natural lines and wrinkles. In cases of difficult births, C-sections may leave suture marks. During the process of slaughtering for meat, skinning can result in knife marks. These marks are faithfully preserved in the leather when it is processed, serving as proof of the animal's life journey. They often have the leather surface sanded and then coated to achieve a clean look. While this results in a pristine surface, it sacrifices the authentic character. At DOZI Leather Workshop, we embrace these natural marks of the cow's life. Unless they are excessively large, we do not specifically avoid using them in our creations. Custom font selection is available. ▴ The engraving area is up to 60mm x 12mm, with a fee of NT$150. ▴ Laser engraving involves using a laser beam to heat and burn the surface of the leather. The resulting characters will appear as a black, scorched mark. Therefore, this service cannot be applied to dark-colored leathers such as black, dark blue, etc. ▴ Some products require laser engraving before production. We cannot apply laser engraving to finished, in-stock items. Therefore, these orders must be scheduled separately. Please contact customer service to inquire about production times when selecting this service. 🌞 Care and Maintenance -------------------- Frequent use is the best form of maintenance. Please avoid storing the leather in damp environments. If the leather becomes wet, wipe it immediately with a dry cloth and allow it to air dry in a cool, well-ventilated area. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, as this may cause the leather to harden and deteriorate. Once dry, you may apply leather conditioning oil to replenish the leather's natural oils. You can also spray a waterproofing agent onto the surface to protect against accidental spills and enhance surface protection. For storage or extended periods of non-use, place the leather item in an electronic dehumidifying cabinet with humidity controlled between 50% and 60% to prevent mold. Alternatively, you can use a sealed bag with a desiccant pack for similar results. Repairs will incur a nominal labor fee. 5. Our studio prefers to use natural leather materials. Cowhide is not excessively processed or coated with heavy surface finishes. Therefore, slight variations in color, texture, and minor scratches are to be expected. If you require a flawless surface, this product may not be suitable, and we regret that we cannot accept requests for "flawless leather surfaces." Furthermore, once personalized with lettering or laser engraving, returns will not be accepted unless there was a manufacturing error.
