“Folk Handicrafts to Contemporary Designs”
"Sala" in the Northern Thai language means artisan or craftsman. Our Sala Design was established and expanded in Chiang Mai—a province with diverse ethnicities where each ethnic group has various and different handicrafts. Handicrafts reflect one's identity, especially textile handicrafts inherited from the past to the present. They use local natural ingredients to embroider and weave with various techniques until becoming sumptuous fabrics from traditional wisdom.
The beauty of the fabrics of each ethnic group, their unique colors and patterns, with the charm of natural dyes make us fascinated by these folk handicrafts. Therefore, we adapted, designed, and created new simple and modern lifestyle products that can practically be used to meet our everyday lifestyles.
Folk textiles have been transmitted through contemporary designs by combining new techniques with traditional wisdom to become our brand's uniqueness and strength. The brand's products go through the design and production process with particular attention to every detail to get quality products with long-life usage. We dedicate to every design and production step, from selecting raw materials produced by local folks, creating jobs, and distributing income to people in the community to generate sustainable revenue while conserving and inheriting the traditional wisdom of each ethnic group's textiles to remain along with Chiang Mai city. We also help extend the breath of "Sala" folk craftsmen to remain within our society.
