○History of Raitami Shibu Uchiwa
Around 1600, a monk in Marugame passed on the craft of fan making as a token of gratitude for staying overnight.
Tadatoshi Hosokawa, the first feudal lord of the Higo domain, started making paper fans in the land of the people who came here and was blessed with materials.
It is said that the encouragement was the beginning.
Raitami Shibu Uchiwa, which can only be made by the people of Kumamoto,

○ What is “Shibu” in Shibu Uchiwa?
The liquid obtained by crushing and fermenting mamegaki is called persimmon tannin.
