We used 100% Shetland sheep wool yarn, imported directly from Shetland. While it may not have the softness of merino wool, it is not scratchy and is lightweight due to its ability to hold air. With use, the yarns will naturally meld together, developing a felt-like texture. We pre-wash the hand warmers before sending them, enhancing their soft, felted feel. This upbringing results in wool fibers that are long, with a mix of thick, medium-thin, and coarse short fibers, as well as colored fibers. In essence, this produces a strong wool. Furthermore, wool is characterized by its natural crimp, which varies by breed. British wool, in addition to typical sheep wool, is distinguished by its dense and abundant crimp. A higher crimp content leads to a more spongy, elastic, and lofty yarn. The loftiness of British wool allows it to trap air effectively, resulting in a yarn that is highly insulating, exceptionally warm, and lightweight.
