Celine can be considered a master of clasps. In its earlier years, the brand offered an endless variety of clasp designs, truly pushing the boundaries of creativity. Even now, from time to time, you can still discover "unseen" clasp designs in the pre-owned market, offering delightful surprises! Some styles from that era were produced in very limited quantities, or were special custom orders, making them exceptionally rare and known to very few. In its early days, Celine operated more like a niche brand today, with "many styles and limited production," rather than the large-scale, group-driven manufacturing seen now. The carriage clasp is one of its most iconic designs, first introduced in the 1960s (yes, you read that right, the 60s!). There are certainly over a hundred variations of the carriage clasp alone, in various sizes (and that's just counting the clasps, not even the bag styles...). This beautiful era of "a hundred clasps in full bloom" was unique to its early years (perhaps I was born too late to witness it...). Celine is now part of the LV group, so the new designs we see today possess a certain uniformity and group identity. It's a "urban legend" that everyone who buys pre-owned bags must have a Celine in their collection, because their vintage styles are so diverse, reducing the chance of encountering the same bag, and their entry-level prices are not high. Plus, fashion is cyclical, and the carriage clasp paired with BOX calfskin is a timeless classic combination. (Personally, I feel new designs simply can't compare to vintage pieces, as the craftsmanship and quality of materials in new items are vastly different. The BOX calfskin on the body is plump and has a natural sheen! (The white spots in the photos are just dust that can be easily wiped away.) The front and back of the bag have no noticeable scratches or scuffs, nor any peeling, discoloration, or dryness. Signs of wear are minimal. The bottom has no noticeable wear, scratches, or scuffs. One corner has a faint mark from improper storage, but it is not a scratch. The sides and corners have no noticeable scratches, scuffs, or wear. The shoulder strap shows signs of use, and the leather feels slightly dry due to wear. The condition improves slightly after conditioning, and this dryness can be improved with ongoing care. The edges show some aging but do not affect usability. The hardware on both sides and the shoulder strap adjustment buckles remain a bright gold, with no oxidation, discoloration, or gold plating loss, and no noticeable scratches. The interior leather lining is clean, with no peeling. The compartments include ☑ two large sections, ☑ two small sections, and ☑ one small zippered compartment. The zipper on the inner pocket functions smoothly with its original pull. Most importantly, the carriage clasp is still a brilliant golden hue! Many current new designs are actually reproductions of older styles. However, new models are priced higher than their vintage counterparts, and their designs are typically based on older styles with added or altered elements. Ultimately, the designs become more complex than those of the past. As we grow older, we realize that simplicity often endures the longest!! The quality of materials in older pieces is also superior to newer ones. Anyone knowledgeable about ✦ leather can see that the materials used in new items are generally of a lower grade than those in older pieces. This is mainly because the cost of high-quality raw materials is too high and their availability is limited today, coupled with the high standards brands held for their finished products back then. The difference between new and old can be most easily seen in the ✦ hardware. The hardware on many new bags oxidizes and discolors after only a year or two of use, but this is rarely the case with older models. In addition to the use of premium materials and meticulous techniques, hardware from earlier eras was often plated with real K gold! Therefore, even vintage bags produced as far back as the 60s and 70s still have gleaming hardware today!
