Burmese Daron Mantra Beads - West Asian Medicine Buddha Agate Bead Bracelet (Length 19cm, Inner Diameter 16cm)

Eleven large-sized, drilled mantra beads emerged from a collapsed stupa in Mandalay. These are Daron mantra beads in a prayer bead format, their oxidized patina carefully cleaned. Crafted from a copper alloy, they contain gold, though in a modest proportion. During their creation, cinnabar was also incorporated into the smelting process. The beads appear bright yellow in photographs, but without regular polishing, they may naturally oxidize and dull over time. The largest beads have an average diameter of 1.1-1.2 cm. Dating is based on accompanying artifacts unearthed with the stupa, suggesting an origin between the 18th and 19th centuries. Typically, mantra beads of this prayer bead style were placed in stupas as strands of 108 beads. Due to the humid conditions within the stupa, the original string deteriorated and broke. After being collected by artifact dealers in Myanmar, they were brought back to Taiwan and sold as individual beads. We were fortunate to acquire some and have paired them with a West Asian Medicine Buddha agate bead to create this bracelet. It is a sacred item, both distinctive and imbued with spiritual blessings. The Medicine Buddha agate bead is an ancient, buried bead, categorized within the West Asian bead system (originating from regions like Myanmar, Pakistan, and Afghanistan). This agate bead predates the 18th century, making it nearly a thousand years old. It measures 1.42 cm in diameter. These two ancient artifacts are strung together into a bracelet measuring 19 cm in length with an inner circumference of 15 cm. ************************* Ancient beads originally held significant spiritual meaning and protective functions, particularly during challenging times.
