Collected in Taiwan, items from the Showa period.
These glass coasters were made using a spray-painting technique,
where the pattern is sprayed onto the back of the glass and then set within a white copper frame.
Interestingly, all the glass coasters in this collection feature landscapes and lakeside scenery.
These reflect the initial impressions of Taiwan held by the Japanese. Beyond glass coasters,
such lakeside motifs are also commonly found on hand-painted ceramic bowls and plates produced in Yingge during earlier periods.
These small glass coasters were typically used as part of a set with larger "tea trays,"
forming a tea set for entertaining guests.
Only the coasters were collected this time, but they can now also serve as charming holders for small trinkets and accessories.
