This Fuji Kiriko Vessel has been hand-carved by accomplished Kiriko craftsmen in the likeness of Mt. Fuji using the classic, traditional Edo techniques. With precise and elaborate cuts representing Mt. Fuji’s snow-covered peak, the Kiriko artisans are able to portray the colorful faces of Japan’s sacred mountain in the characteristic Kiriko colors of “ruri” (lapis lazuli blue), and “beni” (ruby red). The interior of the attractive, paulownia box is lined with pure white cotton, designed to represent the sea of clouds often covering this noble mountain. This beautiful Kiriko piece may be used as a sake cup, or as a vessel for your favorite hors d'oeuvre. What is Edo Kiriko? The techniques of Kiriko have been handed down through generations of craftsman, originating in 1834 with the founder Kyubei Kagaya, and has been officially designated a traditional craft of both Tokyo and of Japan.
