Villeroy & Boch Germany Vintage Ceramic Tea Set

Deeply rooted in European culture since its founding in 1748, German brand Villeroy & Boch has become a household name worldwide for bathroom and kitchenware, headquartered in Saarland, Germany. Then why is this tea set related to France? It all started with the "Made in France-Saar Economic Union" marked at the bottom of the cup. Saar is nowadays' Saarland, a German commune right on the border between France and Luxembourg. This particular area has long been ruled alternately by Germany and France, and is heavily influenced by both countries. After World War II, when Germany was divided in half and the other neighbouring cities became West Germany, Saarland remained under French rule. France had granted freedom to make Saarland an independent state, but in 1955 the city voted to return to West Germany, and the area has been occupied by German territory ever since. This set of ceramic cups was made before Saarland returned to Germany, so it's marked "Made in France-Saar" with a history of at least 60 years. It consists of six tea cups and plates, the gold plating inside the cup and the surface of the plate is worn, but the whole set is not cracked and is in good condition.
