About the making process:
Starting with a sketch, the clay is shaped and repeatedly refined through several stages of drying and trimming. We create enough pieces to fill the kiln evenly over about a month. Bisque firing takes 7 hours; after removal and cleaning with water, each piece is individually glazed and undergoes a 12-hour final firing. Some pieces are further adorned with gold glaze and returned to the kiln for another 7 hours. Due to the necessary slow cooling process, we wait about two days after each firing before removing the items from the kiln. Finally, each piece is inspected and a pin is attached to those that meet our standards. Currently, our success rate is around 70%.
While this process demands significant time and effort, the result is a decorative brooch that beautifully combines the tactile feel of clay, the strength of pottery, the lustrous sheen of glaze, and the sparkle of gold accents.
We believe this piece is designed to be cherished for years to come.
