Our pearls, depending on the variety, are sourced from two major production areas, Japan and China. Each pearl is crafted in professional Chinese jewelry workshops, ensuring consistent quality and exquisite craftsmanship, perfectly showcasing the pearls' natural luster and charm.
🔹 Origin of Japan | Akoya Saltwater Pearls, Mantama Pearls
Akoya pearls, known as "Akoya" in Chinese, are the most representative variety of saltwater pearls. They are primarily cultivated in Mie, Kumamoto, and Ehime, Japan, and are particularly renowned along the Seto Inland Sea coast. Akoya pearls are produced from the Pinctada fucata oyster. Due to their small size, each shell can only produce one pearl, and the meticulous cultivation process requires approximately three years. This results in a relatively rare production, resulting in high quality and a high price.
Akoya pearls are beaded pearls with exceptional roundness and a brilliant, cool luster. Known as the "little light bulbs" of the pearl world, they are highly sought after in fine jewelry. The surface often exhibits a natural "orange peel" texture. Selected grades (those with Japanese certificates) offer near-flawless, translucent luster. Colors include cherry blossom pink, snow white pearls, turquoise pearls, cool turquoise, aurora gold, and queen colors. There's also the rare tan, a natural pink-purple variation of the Akoya variety, highly sought after by collectors.
🔹 China Origin | Freshwater Cultured Pearls
China is the world's largest producer of freshwater pearls, with production concentrated in Zhejiang, Hunan, Jiangsu, and Anhui. Freshwater pearls are primarily cultivated using large clams such as the cumingia mussel. A single mussel can produce dozens of pearls simultaneously, resulting in a much higher yield than saltwater pearls. Over the past decade, significant advancements in cultivation technology and selection standards have enabled high-quality freshwater pearls to approach Akoya grade in terms of roundness, shell firmness, and luster.
Although cultured without a bead, top-quality freshwater pearls can achieve near-round shape, a warm, translucent luster, and a strong sheen. They're also more affordable, making them a highly cost-effective choice for both everyday wear and designer jewelry.
Whether you choose Akoya or Chinese freshwater pearls, all are crafted in our Chinese workshops, ensuring that every piece, from raw materials to detailed craftsmanship, meets jewelry-grade standards, adding a touch of elegance to your everyday life.
💡What's the difference between saltwater pearls and freshwater pearls?
Saltwater pearls (such as Akoya, South Sea, and black pearls) typically grow from a round nucleus surrounded by a beaded shell. They are characterized by a rounder shape, stronger luster, and distinct color gradations. They are a more valuable type of pearl and are often used in fine jewelry.
Freshwater pearls, on the other hand, mostly lack a nucleus and are naturally secreted by mother-of-pearl. While they are affordable and offer a wide variety, they are generally less lustrous and rounder.
Choosing saltwater pearls, such as the Akoya used in this product, means you demand a higher level of luster and quality.
💡Wearing and Care Recommendations
・Wear last and take off first to avoid direct contact with perfume and skincare products.
・Pearls are organic gemstones; avoid contact with alcohol, acidic or alkaline liquids.
・Gently wipe with a clean, soft cloth after each wear to prevent residual sweat from affecting the luster.
・Avoid dropping and heavy pressure, and regularly inspect the metal clasp to extend its lifespan.

Not sure whether to buy freshwater or Akoya pearls?
A comparison of the two is below.
1. Origin & Cultivation
Akoya Pearls
Akoya pearls are a type of saltwater cultured pearl. Akoya pearls are primarily produced in Japan, but are also cultivated in Vietnam and China. The mother oyster of Akoya pearls is the Pinctada martensii oyster, which grows in highly saline waters with complex currents. Typically, each oyster produces only one pearl.
Akoya pearls require a relatively long cultivation cycle, lasting approximately 3-5 years. Annual production is relatively low, accounting for approximately 10% of global pearl production (of all saltwater pearls). Akoya pearls were the first commercially produced saltwater pearls in the world, beginning in the early 1900s. Saltwater cultured pearls (including Akoya) are typically cultured with a bead, using a spherical bead nucleus placed inside the mother oyster.
Freshwater Pearls
Freshwater pearls are cultivated in freshwater environments such as lakes and rivers. They are primarily produced in lakes and rivers along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China, such as in Zhejiang, Hunan, and Jiangsu. Freshwater pearls are primarily cultivated with the Hyriopsis cumingii oyster, which grows in a stable, controlled water environment. A single oyster can produce 10-40 or 30-50 pearls. Freshwater pearls are mostly formed naturally inside oysters, without a nucleus implanted (primarily beadless culture), resulting in a more irregular shape. Freshwater pearl cultivation takes a relatively short time, approximately 1-3 years.
Freshwater pearl production accounts for the vast majority of global pearl production, approximately 95%. Freshwater beaded cultured pearls are also known as "Edison" pearls. Natural and beadless cultured pearls are composed almost entirely of nacre.
II. Appearance - Shape & Size
Shape:
Akoya pearls, due to the use of a round nucleus during cultivation and the relatively thin bead layer that helps maintain their roundness, typically achieve a very round shape with a high roundness rate.
Over 90% of high-quality Akoya pearls are nearly perfectly round. The roundness of Akoya pearls available to consumers is generally quite good.
Freshwater cultured pearls (primarily beadless) are naturally formed without a nucleus implant, so their shapes are more likely to be oval or irregular. Over 80% of freshwater pearls on the market are oval, oblate, or baroque in shape, with a low percentage of perfectly round pearls. Because they are cultured without a bead, perfectly round freshwater pearls are extremely rare, with near-round being the highest roundness grade. Beaded freshwater pearls (Edison pearls) are similar in size to saltwater pearls but less round.
Size:
Akoya pearls are small, typically ranging from 6-9mm in diameter. Commercially produced pearls typically range from 6-8mm or 5-8mm. 8mm is considered a good size, with the largest Akoya pearls reaching 10-11mm.
Akoya pearls are more valuable as they grow larger. Even a difference of just 1mm, for example, between a 7-8mm and an 8-9mm Akoya pearl, can result in a significant price difference.
Freshwater cultured pearls typically range in diameter from 5-12mm. Beaded freshwater pearls (Edison pearls) can range from 12-20mm in size. South Sea pearls are generally found between 10 and 16 mm, while those exceeding 16 mm are relatively rare and valuable.
III. Appearance - Color
Akoya pearls are primarily white. Common overtones to white include pink, light blue-green, and light yellow-green, with pink being the most popular. Akoya pearls also have blue (such as Mantama) and yellow (such as Aurora Queen and Aurora Gold). Saltwater pearls (including Akoya) do not have purple. Pearl color originates from minerals or natural pigments secreted by the mother oyster.
Freshwater cultured pearls primarily come in white, pink, and lavender. Purple is a unique color found in freshwater pearls, derived from carotenoids found in the cuming oyster. Nucleated freshwater pearls (Edison pearls) can exhibit deep purple or bronze tones. Freshwater pearls do not possess pure black or rich gold. Some may have been bleached or dyed.
IV. Appearance - Luster
A pearl's luster is a crucial factor in determining its quality, even its very soul. Luster is related to the thickness and quality of the nacre. The stronger the luster, the more valuable the pearl and the higher its
