This bowl features a depiction of a red camellia blooming in the garden, as seen from the window of a pottery studio in early winter.
The vibrant red camellia, painted with flair against a calm black glaze, creates a piece that evokes both Japanese beauty and the essence of the season.
Crafted using Shigaraki clay, this bowl was shaped on a potter's wheel before the red camellia was meticulously hand-painted, layer by layer, and then fired. The glaze, mixed in our studio, was chosen for its fired color, complementing the natural hues of the flowers. Gold and silver accents are added to the camellia for a touch of opulence. The application of gold and silver is technically demanding, requiring careful attention to temperature and humidity control during the process.
It fits gently and comfortably in the hand, with a smooth rim that feels pleasant against the lips.
This versatile piece enhances any dish and is suitable for celebratory occasions or moments of warm hospitality.
It also makes a thoughtful gift for someone special.
You can enjoy how its depth deepens with use over time.
