A Buddha statue unearthed from a collapsed stupa in the Mandalay region of Myanmar. This Buddha features a pedestal and a halo. It is a relatively rare style of pedestal Buddha sculpture. Estimated to be from the 18th-19th century (the antique dealer who brought it to Taiwan believes it might be even older...). Having handled antiques for many years... it’s generally better to conservatively estimate the age a bit lower. The statue exhibits casting imperfections. Brass alloy. Total height 21cm. Base width 15.2cm. Weight 1420g. The exterior has undergone specialized cleaning and polishing. A major antique dealer in Taiwan imports old Burmese Buddha statues. They once commissioned a factory to perform this level of cleaning and polishing. The quoted price was 2,000 NTD. After the factory completed it once, they were unwilling to take on a second order... In reality, this level of cleaning and polishing requires at least 2 days of work. Taiwan's skilled labor wages are high.
