Komsomol (abbreviated from the Communist Youth Union), full name — youth organization of the Communist party of the Soviet Union. It was established as the Russian Communist Union of youth October 29, 1918; in 1924, the Komsomol was named after V. I. Lenin — Russian Leninist Communist youth Union . After the formation in 1922 of the Soviet Union in March 1926 it was renamed as the all-Union Leninist Communist Union of youth (VLKSM).
In 1977, Komsomol consisted of more than 36 million citizens of the USSR aged 14-28 years.
The Komsomol badge boys and girls received at the age of 14 (that was the next step for yesterday's pioneers). Komsomol was created as a youth wing of the Communist party on the eve of the October revolution in 1917.
