Achieved by carefully controlling the thickness of each glaze application and firing at 1260°C, the piece undergoes a 20-hour transformation in the kiln's intense heat. This process allows the glaze to contract and flow, creating the distinct patterns and fluidity reminiscent of a peacock's fanned tail feathers. The challenge in its creation lies in the precise control of glaze thickness and the delicate adjustment of the temperature curve. Glazes applied too thinly or fired at insufficient temperatures fail to achieve the peacock feather pattern. Conversely, glazes applied too thickly or fired at excessive temperatures can cause the glaze to flow onto the accompanying plate, resulting in the cup and plate being irreparably damaged. Even ambient temperature fluctuations can influence the final outcome. Countless factors intertwine, and despite years of dedicated practice, achieving absolute precision remains elusive. It is precisely this unpredictability that imbues each finished work with such precious value.
