Material Selection The cowhide currently used by "Line Cutters" is exclusively A-grade, full-grain vegetable-tanned leather sourced from Italy. As a natural material, and given the minimal impact of the vegetable-tanning process employed by the tannery, slight "scars," "wrinkles," and "veins" are occasionally present on the leather surface. During the cutting process, we make every effort to avoid these imperfections or position them on less visible or non-stress-bearing parts of the product. 2. Pure Hand Stitching Our products are not made using sewing machines; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch precise stitch holes in the leather. This technique ensures the creation of beautiful, wave-like stitch lines, a distinct characteristic that sets our work apart from machine stitching. While this significantly extends production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with its soul and a warm, tactile quality. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges The final step before a product is complete is the burnishing and sealing of the leather edges. To achieve smooth, rounded, and natural-looking edges, "Line Cutters" employs a proprietary edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a flat surface. This process is repeated two to three times, followed by an application of edge wax. Finally, a burnishing tool is used to repeatedly polish the edges until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Line Cutters" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve an even and natural coloration, we begin by slightly dampening the leather surface with water. The dye is then applied repeatedly with a sponge, gradually building from light to deep tones until the desired color is achieved. Once dry, a color sealant is applied to enhance colorfastness. Finally, the surface is lightly wiped with clean water to remove any surface dust and ensure a more uniform hue. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations in color exist between individual items, making every piece uniquely one-of-a-kind.
