As a natural material, and due to the minimal damage to the leather during the vegetable tanning process employed by the tannery, the surface may inevitably bear minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "vein marks." We strive to avoid these during cutting or place them on less visible or non-stress-bearing areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made using sewing machines; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch stitch holes into the leather, creating the beautiful, wavy stitch lines that distinguish our work from machine-sewn items. While this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, the edges of the leather are burnished and sealed. This process ensures the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Tangent Linear" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges. Then, an edge-finishing liquid is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Finally, a layer of edge-finishing wax is applied, and the edges are repeatedly polished with a burnishing tool until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Tangent Linear" currently uses Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes imported from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by slightly dampening the leather surface. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye repeatedly, layer by layer, from light to deep, until the desired color is achieved. After drying, a color-fixing agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. We also apply water to the leather surface to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations in color exist between individual bags, making each one unique.
