If you look closely at the illustration, you'll discover all the animals of the earth – elephants, hippos, sheep, birds, rabbits, giraffes, and more – making their way to the great ship built by Noah, all in pairs to ensure the continuation of life. About the Artist: Heywood Hardy (1842-1933) An English painter, he is particularly renowned for his hunting art. He was also a sculptor, creating carvings of animals, portraits, genre scenes, and sporting art. Hardy left home at 17 to make a living by painting animals, then traveled to Paris to study under the war artist Pielse. He returned to England in 1868 and began to be frequently invited to the countryside to paint portraits, sporting scenes, and animal studies, gradually focusing on genre subjects. He provided illustrations for the London Illustrated News to depict contemporary news and also produced woodcuts of his paintings. In the 1870s, Hardy and his family moved to London and were welcomed by the artistic community. During this period, Hardy's career flourished.
