Last week, six of us from the family went for dinner at a small Japanese izakaya. When it was time to pay, we younger ones rushed forward, wanting to prevent the elders from footing the bill. We asked the owner if they accepted cards, and they said only cash was accepted. We thought, "Oh no, this is bad," as we hadn't prepared that much cash. Then, an auntie immediately took out her own wallet, telling us to use it for the payment. She mentioned she had anticipated that small shops might not accept cards, so she had already withdrawn a stack of bills from the ATM. - I feel a bit ashamed to admit it, but I also run a small business.
