💕This Coalport Royal Hospital Tercentenary Plate (1682-1982) was specially made to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the Royal Hospital (Royal Hospital Chelsea). The center of the plate depicts the Royal Hospital in detail. This building was ordered to be built by Charles II in 1682, later expanded by James II, and finally completed in 1692 during the reign of William and Mary. The plate is surrounded by golden oak leaves and acorn totems, paired with a luxurious crimson background, showing a strong British royal style.
💎The back of the commemorative plate records the history of the Royal Hospital in gold letters, emphasizing its founding purpose: to provide shelter and care for veterans devastated by war. It symbolizes respect and care for soldiers.
✨In 1967, Coalport joined the Wedgwood Group and became part of Waterford Wedgwood in 1985. However, in the Wedgwood Group, Coalport has always maintained a special position because of its superb carving and painting skills. In the early 1970s, it even recruited a group of new carving craftsmen with extraordinary strength.
✨✨ Wedgwood ✨✨
Josiah Wedgwood, known as the "Father of British Potters", is a famous British ceramic brand with a long history, founded in 1759. Wedgwood is renowned for its high-quality porcelain products, particularly its distinctive 'Jasperware', which is noted for its elegant light relief and muted background. Wedgwood's elegant designs and exquisite craftsmanship are often favored by royal families, nobles and art lovers, becoming one of the classic representatives of British ceramic craftsmanship.
In 1759 the main kiln was established in Stoke-on-Trent. Soon after the company was founded, hard ceramics were developed and named "Queen's Porcelain" by the wife of King George IV. He also published the black pottery made by potters at the time, naming it "Egyptian Black". In 1774 he established Wedgwood's reputation with his newly invented cameo jade. In the following years, new types of ceramics came into being one after another based on his research.
