Instead of firing in the electric kiln that I normally use at home, I had the pieces fired in a kerosene kiln at the pottery maker that I am currently using. This item is fired using a method called reduction firing, which reduces the amount of oxygen in the kiln during firing, allowing you to enjoy a refined flavor that cannot be achieved in an electric furnace. The straw ash glaze used is an original glaze made by the potter, who himself burns rice straw and mixes it using the ash. It has a color and texture that you won't find anywhere else. It's a little large for a small bowl. The wide and deep base makes it easy to use and can hold even liquidy dishes. The color and texture that evokes the taste of earthiness harmonizes with a variety of ingredients and goes well with any color of food. Please enjoy it with a variety of dishes. I use a small electric kiln and an electric potter's wheel at home to make my pottery, and all processes, from kneading the clay to shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, are done by hand. We felt that a plump form would suit the texture of the clay and glaze, so we threw the pieces a little thicker than usual. To avoid damaging your table as much as possible, the contact surface will be sanded down before delivery.
