As a natural material crafted using less damaging vegetable-tanning methods, the leather may inherently feature minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "vein marks." We make every effort during the cutting process to avoid these imperfections or to position them on less visible or non-stressed areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are entirely hand-stitched, eschewing the use of sewing machines. Before stitching, special awls are used to create precise holes in the leather, enabling the beautiful, wavy stitch effect that distinguishes our work from machine-sewn items. While this significantly extends production time, it is a crucial step where the artisan imbues the leather goods with soul and a warm, tactile quality. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before completion, the edges of the leather are meticulously burnished and sealed. This process ensures the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "TANGENT LINEAR" employs a unique edge-finishing technique. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge-sealing liquid is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Finally, a layer of edge-sealing wax is applied, followed by vigorous polishing with a burnishing tool until the edges achieve a smooth, lustrous finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "TANGENT LINEAR" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, the leather surface is first dampened with water. Dye is then applied repeatedly with a sponge, gradually building from light to deep tones until the desired color is achieved. Once dry, a color-fixing agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also lightly wiped with water to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations in color exist between individual bags, ensuring that each one is unique.
