-PORTMEIRION Group-
In 1960, the legendary Ms. Susan Williams-Ellis, a luminary in ceramic design, together with her husband Euan Cooper-Willis, integrated two previously acquired ceramic companies and factories to establish Portmeirion Potteries. Susan initially designed ceramic gifts for their home in Portmeirion Village at her father's request. As these gifts became increasingly popular, she acquired the ceramic companies and factories, which allowed her to design the shapes and patterns of the ceramics herself. In the 1970s, Susan's most iconic and beloved series – Botanic Garden – was born. Inspired by antique botanical books discovered by chance, Botanic Garden's unique and exquisite floral designs presented a casual home style distinct from the formal dinnerware of the time. Upon its launch, it was enthusiastically welcomed worldwide and became a classic in British design, still recognized today as one of the most popular tableware designs.
Despite such business success, Susan remained true to her goal of creating beautiful, practical, and affordable tableware. She personally oversaw the manufacturing process, maintaining Portmeirion's high quality and continuously introducing beloved collections. Although Ms. Susan passed away in 2007, her lifelong design philosophy – not only beautiful but also functional and affordable – will continue to guide Portmeirion forward.
