Each piece is one-of-a-kind.** **About Opal** Color is a fundamental attribute of most gemstones. Among the variations in color, the most significant is the "play-of-color" found in opals. Opal, derived from the Latin word "opalus," meaning "to carry gems," is world-renowned for its magical and beautiful play-of-color effect. It is also a symbol of nobility and status. The renowned English playwright Shakespeare once described opal as "this miracle, the queen of gems." Its colors are incredibly diverse, shifting as you view it from different angles. Every opal is distinct, making it highly collectible. Opals come in varieties such as black opal, white opal (precious opal), fire opal, and boulder opal. Opal is composed of silica spheres. These spherical structures are invisible to the naked eye and can only be seen under an electron microscope. The color changes are caused by the combined effects of diffraction and interference – it's a bit complex, essentially light playing hide-and-seek with these spherical structures! **Opal Care and Storage** If you have purchased opals or pearls, please be extra careful to avoid environments with excessive humidity or drastic temperature changes. Temperature and humidity can accelerate the decomposition or oxidation of organic gemstones. Due to their hardness and formation, it's also advisable to avoid hot springs and saunas, as well as products containing cleaning agents. Opal is a delicate gemstone that requires a bit of moisture for preservation. Therefore, we do not include desiccants in the storage pouches. Of course, like other gemstones, you should not wear them while bathing or visiting hot springs. Avoid using silver polishing cloths on opals; simply clean them with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth. We will include a jewelry polishing cloth. After wearing, gently wipe the ring clean and store it in its gemstone pouch. For all natural gemstone and metal jewelry, it is not recommended to wear them in hot springs or during baths, as chemicals can cause adverse reactions. Avoid direct contact with perfumes, bleach, and do not store jewelry in bathrooms or kitchens, as this can accelerate oxidation. When not wearing sterling silver or gold jewelry, try to isolate it from moisture and air. Clean it with a dry cloth or the provided polishing cloth, then store it in a PVC zipper bag. Each piece of jewelry should be stored separately to prevent scratches from contact with other jewelry or hard objects. The zipper bags already contain Japanese-imported desiccants. **Natural Stone Inclusions** The natural stones used in NOW design are collected from around the world. Each one is unique, and we typically have only one of each item. These stones are specially selected. We showcase their colors under different angles and lighting for our customers. Natural stones may have internal impurities (inclusions), which are unavoidable. If this is a concern, we advise against purchasing.
