Rough red clay, which gives off the warmth and simplicity typical of pottery, is shaped into the shape of a single flower petal, and then coated with blue and white glazes and fired. The bottom has been scraped slightly to make it flat so that it can be used as a chopstick rest. Petals fell from the flowers on the table, adding a little color to the dinner table. This work was created with such a scene in mind. I have a small electric kiln at home and do all the steps by hand, from kneading the clay to shaping, bisque firing, glazing and firing.
