**Arabian Ostrich**
The Arabian Ostrich is an extinct species of ostrich that once inhabited the Arabian Peninsula and the Near East. It was a close relative of the North African Ostrich.
This bird held a long and significant place in culture. A prehistoric rock carving in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, depicts an Arabian Ostrich with eleven chicks. In ancient Mesopotamia, they were used as sacrificial offerings and were often depicted on cups or crafts.
Since ancient times, these large birds have been hunted for sport. This practice worsened as human weaponry evolved over the ages, ultimately leading to their extinction. While ostriches can still be seen in Arabia today, these are introduced populations and not the true Arabian Ostrich.
**IUCN Status: Extinct (EX)**

- Though we may never have the chance to witness these creatures firsthand, they did exist. These animals were once mighty and magnificent, but they were lost to extinction due to human actions. If we fail to learn from the past and allow all wild animals across the globe to vanish, leaving only livestock confined to fences and cages, how desolate will our Earth become?
