[Mugakawa Bunka] Masterpiece Series 003: Heart

First published in October 1886, *Heart* is a novel rich in emotion and elegantly written in a diary format. The book is divided into three parts: the ten-month diary of Enrico, a fourth-grader from Italy; the words of admonition left by his parents in the diary; and patriotic short stories read by his teacher in class. Among these, "The Mother's Return" was adapted into a classic cartoon by a Japanese animation studio, with its heart-stirring plot becoming a childhood memory for many.
