The full name of the Medicine Buddha is the Tathagata of the Lapis Lazuli Light of the East, commonly known as the Tathagata of the Lapis Lazuli Light, or simply "Medicine Buddha."
He is the principal deity of the Lapis Lazuli World in the Eastern Pure Land. During his practice as a Bodhisattva, he made twelve vows to heal the sickness of sentient beings, cure incurable diseases, eliminate all hardships, and bring peace, health, and joy.
